The most popular coding standard for safety critical C is the MISRA C standard. There are several safety critical coding standards for C++. The Joint Strike Fighter C++ Avionics coding standard, commonly referred to as JSF++, was the first such standard. JSF++ was heavily based upon the MISRA C standard. After the JSF++ standard was published the MISRA organization developed and published the MISRA C++ standard. Some time later the company PRQA, working from both the JSF++ standard and the MISRA C++ standard published the High Integrity C++ coding standard. Every safety critical coding standard must actually improve the safety of software developed when following that code. There are no published studies of any of these standards to prove their effectiveness in improving software safety. The standards appear to be based upon attempts to limit known vulnerabilities in C or C++. Each of these coding standards is very large, with more than 100 rules in each of the standards. There are many commercial tools which claim to automatically verify compliance with these standards. In reality each tool is strong in verifying some rules and at the same time weak in verifying some other rules. Each tool has its own strengths and weaknesses. The Ada language was initially designed to support the development of safety critical software. It has since grown into a larger, more general purpose language, but still maintains the features needed to support the development of safety critical software. read less

What is the actual size of INT in the C language, 2 or 4 bytes?
The actual size to int is determined by the compiler as the program runs. But theoretically the size is 2 bytes. You can increase the size by adding keyword long infront of it to make the size 4 bytes. Eg int a; // 2 bytes Long int b; // 4 bytes
