When you move an object over any surface in any direction, frictional force acts in the opposite direction (as per definition - it is an opposing force). If you change the direction of the object, friction automatically changes its direction in the opposite direction to that of the object. You just have to change and control the motion of the object over any surface and friction will adjust itself in the opposite direction. Thus, it is a self adjusting force. example ( state board text book std XI - characteristics / conclusion of frictional force) read less

Static friction is the opposing force that comes into play when a body is at rest or tends to move over the surface of another body, but the actual motion has not yet started. Static friction is a self adjusting force because neither it has fixed magnitude nor direction. It adjusts according to the applied...

yes, it is self-adjusting But until the time applied force is below its maximum static frictional limit, afterwards constant magnitude of kinetic friction takes over motion.

Static force is called as self adjusting force. It is the maximum frictional force between any two objects when one object tends to move or slip over the surface of other object .Static friction comes into play when we try to move an stationary objects. It neither has magnitude nor direction. It adjusts...

The force of friction (F^) is the opposing force that comes into play when a body is at rest, tends to move or it is moving over the surface of another body. The force of friction (F^) increases with increase the applied force (F) till it is near the maximum value called limiting value of friction. The force of friction up to the maximum value is static friction because the body remains at the rest position till then with further increase in the applied force causes the frictional force decreases to become constant:. This value of frictional force is called dynamic friction or kinetic friction. Thus force of friction adjusts itself with applied force. read less
