When I talk about a mindset, I'm talking about the ideal frame of mind to be in, to be successful in your studies. Listening is so important because it provides key examples of native English speakers and what they sound like. Knowing what the difference is between one word and another, especially if they have a similar meaning or pronunciation, is why vocabulary is at the core of learning a language. Paying special attention to how a word sounds and where the stress is applied, the basics of pronunciation, are what will ensure you sound like a native speaker. And, finally, the decision to become fluent in English is personal, and it's extremely important. Fluency is what you say it is, and it is reliant on you supplying your own dedication and motivation. You are the driving force behind your fluency goals!

- Most English Classes Are Like This -

Your English teacher has ten years of teaching experience and is certified to teach English as a second language. He even displays his ESL Certificate proudly on the wall.

He teaches you advanced grammar lessons filled with rules and exceptions. You know all about regular verbs, prepositions and present continuous tense.

He uses phonetic charts to help you improve pronunciation.

You are given a list of 3,000 English words to be memorised as part of the English course. He quizzes you on these words. You have studied most of these and can remember the meanings.

You get comprehensive notes from classes. You write down every important thing your teacher says.

BUT...You Can't Speak English Fluently! Why?

The biggest reason why you can’t speak English fluently and confidently is that your English teacher never lets you speak in English in class.

Your teacher gives lectures, asks you to take notes, gives you homework and asks you to study.

How will you learn to speak a language if you don't speak?

FACT - You will improve English Speaking ONLY if you speak a lot.

If your goal is to just pass English exams like TOEFL or IELTS, use memorisation techniques and prepare for these exams. However, if you want fluency in English and speak with a clear accent with confidence, find an English teacher who works more like a conversation partner than a teacher.

 
If you want to improve your spoken English fast do these things:

• Find an English tutor who works as a Conversation Partner, not a Professor. If you can find a Native English speaker, it is even better.
• Get corrections when you make mistakes but ask your teacher not to correct you all the time – you simply will not remember every correction, so it is better to develop confidence rather than worrying about mistakes.
• Increase English “inputs” – Watch TED Talks, watch American/British Late night shows, Listen to BBC or NPR. Read the Times of India or Hindustan Times. Expanding your Vocabulary is something you can do without a teacher. :)

1. About the Language: Spanish is one of the most famous languages that is learnt in the world. It is spoken in Spain, Europe. It is also spoken in different countries of South America like Peru, Argentina, Columbia, Venezuela, etc. It is the main language of Mexico and the second language in United States Of America. Like every other language, there is a difference between Spanish spoken in different places.

2. About the Culture: The Spanish culture is vibrant, colourful and traditional. They have different festivals like Cinco de Mayo, Dios de Muerto, etc. They also have a traditional dance in Spain called Flamenco. One of their traditional food dish is paella.

6. Every living or non living thing has a gender.

There are only 2 genders. There is no neutral gender.

For example: Coche (car) is masculine

Casa (house) is feminine.

7. Some Questions and Answers:

i. Cómo te llamas? (What is your name?): Me llamo Carlos. ( My name is Charles)

ii. De donde eres? (Where are you from?): Soy de Indio (I am from India)

• In Listening, use the example at the beginning of the first section to familiarize yourself with the sound, the situation, and the speakers.
• Keep listening until the recording stops, looking only at the questions that relate to the part being played.
• There are often pauses in the recording between different sections. Use these to prepare for the next set of questions.
• Answer Listening questions in the order they appear on the Question Paper. Remember that they normally follow the order of the information in the recording.
• At the end of the recording you have some time to transfer your answers to the Answer Sheet. Check your grammar and spelling as you do so.
• In Academic Reading, begin by going quickly through each passage to identify features such as the topic, the style, the likely source, the writer’s purpose and the intended reader.
• As you read, don’t try to understand the precise meaning of every word or phrase. You don’t have time, and those parts of the text might not be tested anyway.
•  Reading tasks sometimes have an example answer. If this is the case, study it and decide why it is correct.
• Some tasks require you to use words from the text in the answer; in others you should use your own words. Check the instructions carefully.
• The instructions may also include a word limit, e.g. Use no more than three words. Keep to this by avoiding unnecessary words in your answer.
• In Academic Writing, you must always keep to the topic set. Never try to prepare sections of text before the exam.
• Keep to the suggested timing: there are more marks possible for Task 2 than Task 1.
• Organize and link your ideas and sentences appropriately, using a wide range of language and showing your ability (in Task 2) to discuss ideas and express opinions.
• If you write less than 150 words in Task 1 or less than 250 in Task 2 you will lose marks, but there is no maximum number of words for either.
• When you plan your essay, allow plenty of time at the end to check your work.
• In Speaking, don’t try to give a prepared speech, or talk about a different topic from the one you are asked to discuss.
• Always speak directly to the Examiner, not to the recording equipment.
• Whenever you reply ‘Yes’ or ‘No’ to the Examiner’s questions, add more details to your answer. In each case, aim to explain at least one point.
• Remember that you are not being tested on your general knowledge but on your ability to communicate effectively.
• Organize and link your ideas and sentences appropriately, talking clearly at normal speed and using a wide range of structures and vocabulary.
