Active and Passive Voice

In school, we have this exercise of converting active to passive voice and vice versa. It requires some knowledge of the basics:

1. The active voice is the preferred method of communication as it is direct, focusses on the subject and clear.

2. The passive voice, on the other hand, appears informal communication and in some cases: to focus more on the activity/object rather than on the subject.

Some Examples with the conversion:

1. He lights the lamp. (Simple Present)

The lamp is lit by him.

In the above example, the main verb is changed to the past participle form. Also, the object moves to the front, and the "be" verb is added in the passive sentence. While the conversion takes place, please also note that the tense is to be retained.

2. They murdered him. (Simple Past)

He was murdered.

Note that "they" is omitted, if you prefer it that way when it is passive.

3. I have opened an Account. (Present Perfect)

An account has been opened.

4. I will mail the documents. (Simple Present)

The documents will be mailed.

Now that I have shared some examples with you: I would like to know if you have any doubts? Besides, I have a question for you-can other tenses also be converted this way?

Passive causative verb usage
We use this structure to express or talk about activities done by someone else and not us yet keeping the importance to the object and not the subject. We can achieve this by using passive causative verb structure. To know more, stay tuned.
