Sir, not every thing has logic. Sometimes there are rules, we should accept them as it is. It is not good to ponder over these things, when there are lots of other phenomenons that are more important and that require some serious pondering.

Mr Singaravel, Just on a lighter note, I have a question, will you be called as Sang-aravel, Sung-aravel in any reference of tense with your name as you name has a verb in it? Your profile says you have 20 years of teaching experience and I am sure you would have encountered the question you have posted in your tenure of teaching I am not as experienced as you but just to clarify both Make / Take are irregular verbs. Usually the most commonly used verbs in a language retain their ancient, irregular forms, because they are used so often. When a new verb enters a language, speakers add regular endings to it. For example: He emails his friends, He emailed his friends, He has emailed his friends There are lots of discrepancies in English: Forsake forsook forsaken, Forbid forbade forbidden, hold held but fold folded But I think language is an ever evolving subject and you sure can contribute to its evolution with your inquisitiveness. Let's look at the context. The word "make" usually connotes "preparing something". For instance - "He asked her to make tea". The word "mook" usually means " a foolish, insignificant, or contemptible person" (http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/mook) - which is different from our intention of conveying the message - "preparing something". The word "maken" does not have any meaning in English (per my Google Search on the word). So my net conclusion is that it is the context that dictates what form a verb takes in different tenses. Hope this helps. Sanjay Agrawal read less

Hello Singaravelu, I do believe that you are not a sincere student but simply trying to pose useless questions for the heck of it. I have seen two questions posed by you which show a fair knowledge of Grammar. This forum is meant for those who have genuine doubts. To answer your question: Why is Singaravelu called Singaravelu? Why is he not called Tom Dick or Harry? Why should an "A" be called "A"? Why not Alpha? All language have a premise and these should not be frivolously questioned. The common assumption then permits all users of that language to communicate. You do not question why is the dollar not the currency of India.
