lying down to rest or relax when you are tired is very beneficial. A yoga mat on the floor doesn’t provide a lot of padding so many people might find it uncomfortable initially.

The best way to benefit from lying on a yoga mat is to develop a yoga practice, even one on a basic level. Through this you will be introduced to Savasana (Sanskrit: final resting pose) which is typically done at the end of the practice for several minutes.

There is no any rule or compulsion of performing any asan on mat, there may not be any benift other than plessibo effect if you get yes in answer of your question. Lol.

Yes, it will helps in back problem. If u r not doing yoga then if u sit n do chanting then lying down it will more beneficial. When we be on positive mindset and do any kriya it absorbs energy. I would recommend not to share yoga mat to everyone.that makes difference.
